(iii) Technical requirements
DIN 267-26 applies to technical requirements for spring lock washers made of spring steel. The agreement specifies the technical specifications for spring-loaded lock washers made of copper-zinc alloys.
Material:
FSt = spring steel as specified in DIN 267-26 or CuSn 8 standard DIN 17662 (only for nominal sizes 22 and smaller).
Safety ring: St = steel.
CuZn = copper-zinc alloy.
④, Explanatory note

By maintaining a sufficiently high preload in the bolt/nut assembly, the spring washers are designed to prevent the assembly from loosening. This may, e.g., be caused by the effect of setting in the assembly. Specifying the residual spring force in DIN 267-26 makes it possible to evaluate the performance of spring washers for the first time. As the spring force can be realized using spring locking washers as described in this standard (see DIN 267-26), such washers are only suitable for bolt/nut assemblies for performance class 5.8 or more minor bolts. When spring lock washers with safety rings were developed, the heat treatment methods did not ensure the washers would not break during use. The purpose of the safety ring was to retain pieces of the washer in the event of rupture, thereby preventing further damage from occurring, particularly in the case of electrical installations. This issue has now been resolved, and it is intended to withdraw the standard after a five-year transition period. It is recommended that the spring locking washers specified in DIN 128 be used instead of the spring locking washers specified in this standard.    

There are two main materials for spring washers: iron and stainless steel. We usually use 65 kinds of iron MN spring steel or 70# carbon steel, 3Cr13, also called 65 fierce. This iron material is better. Stainless steel is usually 201, 304, or 316. Iron spring washers need plating, while stainless steel does not.
