48mm＜shaft diameter d≤200mm, hardness 435-530 HV or 44-51 HRC
200mm＜shaft diameter d≤300mm, hardness 390-470 HV or 40-47 HRC.

The hardness of DIN 471 shaft retaining rings is specified as follows:
d 1 ≤ 48 mm Hardness:470 HV-580 HV
48 mm < d1 ≤200 mm Hardness: 435 HV-530 HV
200 mm < d1 ≤300 mm Hardness: 390 HV - 470 HV
Regarding the surface treatment of shaft retaining rings: The surface of spring steel shaft retaining rings is generally blackened and oiled, due to the deformation that must be generated when the ring is installed, it is rare to see products with zinc plating on the surface (hydrogen embrittlement fracture risk) and non-electrolytic zinc flake coatings (coating flaking), and it is not recommended that customers choose shaft retaining rings with plating.
The main routine tests for retaining rings are hardness tests and bending tests.
