Retaining rings for shafts with teeth are ring-shaped parts fastened to the shaft to prevent other parts mounted on the shaft from loosening and falling off. They are made by the wire stamping process and have a round cross-section.
The function of the retaining ring for shafts with teeth is to prevent axial loosening of rolling bearings and gears by means of the bearing cap and its fastening screws. Both sides of the retaining ring are required to be parallel, but the dimensional accuracy is not high. In order to make assembly simple, a clearance fit is required between the retaining ring bore and the shaft.
There is no relative motion between the retaining ring and the shaft with teeth, and the dimensions of the retaining ring for the shaft with teeth have no effect on the accuracy of the motion. For ease of machining, the tolerance class of the hole is set at IT9. There are two ways to make the fit between the retaining ring hole and the shaft a clearance fit: one is to make the retaining ring hole as large as possible. The second is to make the shaft into a stepped shaft with the same basic dimensions and a small deviation so that the shaft and the shaft retaining ring hole fit at the shaft is even smaller.
Retaining rings for shafts with teeth are a type of hole movement mounted on a slotted shaft and used as a fixture. The inside diameter of this retaining ring is slightly smaller than the inside diameter of the assembled shaft. Installation should be done by using circlip pliers, inserting the jaws into the jaw holes of the retaining ring, and bracing the retaining ring before it can be placed into the pre-processed shaft groove.
