Characteristics of hexagon head bolts in industrial structural connections and industry solutions

1. What is the meaning of hexagon head bolts?

Hex head bolts are divided into two kinds of hexagonal bolts and hexagonal screws, usually used for mechanical equipment fastening.

Hex cap screws and large hexagon bolts Hex bolt head for the hexagonal type of externally threaded fasteners, designed to use a wrench to turn. According to ASME B18.2.1 standard, hexagon head screws (Hex cap screw) than the general large hexagon bolts (Hex bolt) head height and rod length tolerance is small, so ASME B18.2.1 Hex Cap Screws are suitable for installation in all the Hex bolts can be used in places, but also contains large Hex bolts are too large and can not be used in places.

A hexagonal bolt is a fastener used to join mechanical parts. It has a hexagonal head and usually consists of three parts: the head, the stem, and the threaded part. The hexagonal shape of the head is used to rotate using a wrench, while the body of the rod and the threaded part connect the two parts. Hexagonal bolts are widely used in mechanical fastening because of their stable structure and high load-bearing capacity.

2. Classification of hexagon head bolts

High-Strength Grade 8 Steel Hex Head Screws: Made from Grade 8 steel, these screws can be used in high-stress applications, such as valves, pumps, motors, and automotive suspension systems. They are at least 25% stronger than medium-strength steel screws. Grade 8 steel hex head screws are marked with six radial lines. Length is measured from under the head.

Zinc yellow-chromate plated steel screws resist corrosion in wet environments.

Zinc-flake-coated steel screws are about five times as corrosion resistant as zinc yellow-chromate plated screws and have good resistance to salt water and acids. They are also known as ultra coats and armor coats. To maintain corrosion resistance, use these screws with zinc-flake-coated nuts and washers.

Match the thread spacing of mating components. Coarse threads are the industry standard; choose these screws if you don’t know the threads per inch.

Fine and extra-fine threads are closely spaced to prevent loosening from vibration; the finer the thread, the better the resistance.

Screws that meet ASTM A354BD or SAE J429 comply with specifications and testing requirements for material quality.

Screws that meet ASME B18.2.1 or ASME B18.6.3 comply with specifications for dimensional standards.

Left-Hand Threaded High-Strength Steel Hex Head Screws: Tighten these screws by turning them to the left; once fastened, they prevent counterclockwise-moving parts from loosening. Made from Grade 8 steel, they are at least 25% stronger than medium-strength steel screws. The zinc yellow-chromate plating resists corrosion in wet environments. The material meets SAE J429 specifications for quality. Grade 8 steel hex head screws are marked with six radial lines. Length is measured from under the head.

18-8 Stainless Steel Hex Head Screws: Made from 18-8 stainless steel, these screws have good chemical resistance and may be mildly magnetic. Length is measured from under the head.

Metric screws are also known as A2 stainless steel screws.

Black-oxide screws have a black appearance.

Match the thread spacing of mating components. Coarse threads are the industry standard; choose these screws if you don’t know the pitch or threads per inch. Fine and extra-fine threads are closely spaced to prevent loosening from vibration; the finer the thread, the better the resistance.

Screws that meet ASME, ISO (formerly DIN), or DIN specifications comply with these dimensional standards.

Stainless Steel Hex Screw and Nut Kits for Pipe Flanges: Use these kits to connect standard-size stainless steel pipe flanges for ANSI Class 150 or 300. They meet ASTM specifications for material quality, and the dimensions meet ASME specifications. The length of the screws is measured from under the head.

18-8 stainless steel kits have good chemical resistance and may be mildly magnetic.

Three hundred sixteen stainless steel kits are more corrosion resistant than 18-8 stainless steel and have excellent resistance to chemicals and salt water. They may be mildly magnetic. Some kits have blue PTFE-coated nuts. This coating is slippery, chemical-resistant, and prevents galling. It also helps nuts thread smoothly.

Brass Hex Head Screws: Brass screws are electrically conductive, nonmagnetic, and have good corrosion resistance. Length is measured from under the head.

Match the thread spacing of mating components. Coarse threads are the industry standard; choose these screws if you don’t know the pitch or threads per inch. Fine threads are closely spaced to prevent loosening from vibration.

Screws that meet ASME B18.2.1 comply with specifications for dimensional standards.

Aluminum Hex Head Screws: Aluminum screws are one-third the weight of steel and have good corrosion resistance. Length is measured from under the head.

Screws that meet ISO (formerly DIN) or DIN comply with specifications for dimensional standards.

Titanium Hex Head Screws: The most corrosion-resistant metal screws we offer, titanium screws withstand salt water, acids, and chemicals. They have a high strength-to-weight ratio—stronger than medium-strength steel screws and about 40% lighter. Length is measured from under the head.

Nickel Alloy Hex Head Screws: More corrosion resistant than 316 stainless steel, these nickel alloy screws have excellent resistance to salt water and some acids. They are also known as Monel screws. The material meets ASTM F468 and MIL-S-1222 specifications for quality. Length is measured from under the head.

Super-Corrosion-Resistant 316 Stainless Steel Heavy Hex Head Screws for High-Pressure Applications: Made from 316 stainless steel, these Grade B8M screws are more corrosion-resistant than 18-8 stainless steel screws and have excellent resistance to chemicals and salt water. They may be mildly magnetic. Also known as pressure bolts, these screws meet the high-pressure and high-temperature regulations of ASTM A193 and are used to secure pressure tanks, valves, and flanges. Length is measured from under the head. Screws should be used with Grade 8M nuts.

Partially threaded screws come with precise threaded and unthreaded portions, allowing you to place only the more substantial unthreaded portion (grip) in joints subjected to sideways forces.

High-Strength Steel Hex Head Screws with Material Certification: These screws come with a traceable lot number and a physical and chemical test report. Made from Grade 8 steel, they can be used in high-stress applications, such as valves, pumps, motors, and automotive suspension systems. They are at least 25% stronger than medium-strength steel screws. The zinc yellow-chromate plating resists corrosion in wet environments. The material meets SAE J429 specifications for quality. Dimensions meet ASME B18.2.1 specifications. Grade 8 steel hex head screws are marked with six radial lines. Length is measured from under the head.
