A bearing retaining ring is installed in the groove shaft and used as a fixed part of the hole for movement. This retaining ring's inner diameter is slightly smaller than the assembly shaft diameter. Installation must use the spring pliers, which will be inserted into the jaws of the retaining ring of the jaw hole, and expansion of the retaining ring to put into the pre-processed shaft groove.
Role and structural characteristics of bearing retaining ring
The bearing retaining ring, or the bearing end cap, is a vital component connecting the bearing and bearing housing. It enables the inner ring to be in working condition by catching the outer ring. It makes it easy to determine the relative position of the movable bearing between the outer ring and the bearing housing during installation and disassembly. The structural characteristics of the bearing retaining ring mainly include the following: bearing retaining ring is a symmetrical structure; the inner and outer ring end faces each have a specific range of round projections; the size of the internal ring projections is enough to hang the bearing inner ring, the size of the outer ring projections is enough to put the bearing outer ring stuck; the outer ring and the retaining ring can not be relative sliding.
Characteristics of bearing retaining ring materials and applicable industry solutions
The materials of bearing retaining rings are generally selected with high strength, hardness, toughness, high temperature, and good wear resistance. Commonly used bearings having ring materials include the following:
1. Carbon steel: carbon steel is more widely used in bearing retaining rings, with good cutting performance and cost advantage. However, the corrosion resistance of carbon steel is weak, and it is easy to rust in humid, acidic, and other environments, so it needs surface anti-corrosion treatment. Carbon steel retaining rings have high hardness and strength, are not easy to deform, and are commonly used in general bearings. However, carbon steel retaining rings are easily corrupted and rusted, and if not used properly, they will easily cause noise when the bearing is running.
2. Stainless steel: Stainless steel has good corrosion resistance and is stable in wet, acidic, and other environments. Although the price of stainless steel is higher, it generally applies to high-end bearings. Stainless steel retaining rings have a certain degree of corrosion resistance and can be used in wet, corrosive environments. However, the hardness and strength of stainless steel retaining rings are relatively low compared to carbon steel; the price is correspondingly high!
3. Cast iron: Cast iron has good mechanical properties and cutting performance, but its low hardness makes it unsuitable for high-speed, high-load bearing fields.
4. Copper alloy: copper alloy has better anti-friction and thermal conductivity, but the cost is higher, generally applicable to particular bearing areas. The copper alloy retaining ring has certain anti-wear, anti-fatigue, plasticity, and thermal conductivity. Still, the price is relatively high and is usually used for special field requirements.
Selecting suitable bearing retaining ring material is an important step to ensure the regular operation of bearings. Different materials containing rings have other characteristics and applicable areas according to the actual needs of appropriate materials to ensure bearings' performance and service life. The materials for the bearing retaining ring must be based on the working environment of the bearing and the use of performance selection. Generally speaking, metal retaining ring cost is low, high strength, and suitable for relying on the bearing force to transfer torque and load; non-metallic retaining ring is cheaper, has higher oxidation stability and better chemical resistance, and is ideal for the operation of the environmental requirements of the higher occasions.
