1. Application in Aircraft Landing Gear: The structural materials used in manufacturing aircraft landing gear include 30CrMnSiNi2A, 4340, 300M, Aermet100, etc. Precipitation-hardening stainless steels are commonly used for landing gear and fasteners in aircraft operating in marine climates. For example, 17-4PH is used for the landing gear of the F-15 aircraft, the improved 15-5PH is used for the landing gear of the B-767 aircraft, and PH13-8Mo is expected to replace steel grades such as 17-4PH, 15-5PH, 17-7PH, and PH15-7Mo due to its superior stress corrosion resistance.


2. Application in Aircraft Structural Components: High-strength stainless steels such as 15-5PH, 17-4PH, and PH13-8Mo are used in aircraft structural components. These stainless steels are used in various components such as cabin latches, high-strength bolts, springs, and other accessories. In commercial aircraft, these high-strength stainless steels are used in wing beams. For example, the Boeing 737-600 wing beam uses 15-5PH steel, and the A340-300 wing beam uses PH13-8Mo steel. PH13-8Mo is used in areas that require high strength, toughness, and special requirements for transverse properties, such as fuselage frames. Custom465, developed by Carpenter Technology, is used in structures that require high toughness and high-stress corrosion resistance, such as flap tracks, slat tracks, transmission devices, and engine brackets. This stainless steel is included in technical specifications such as MMPDS-01, AMS 5936, and ASTM A564. Additionally, HSL180 high-strength stainless steel (0.21C-12.5Cr-1.0Ni-15.5Co-2.0Mo) is also used in the manufacture of aircraft structural components. This steel has a strength of 1800 MPa, comparable to low-alloy steels such as 4340, and it exhibits corrosion resistance and toughness similar to precipitation-hardening stainless steels like SUS630.


3. Application in Aircraft Parts: For parts with significant deformation during processing, such as aircraft flap fairings, traditional stainless steel, usually 1Cr18Ni9Ti, is commonly used. However, this alloy has low strength and is prone to pullout failure at rivet holes during use. In new designs, a semi-austenitic precipitation-hardening stainless steel developed in China is used instead of traditional stainless steel for components such as cabin latches, gear pads, engine suspension rod bolts, hydraulic system pipe fittings (forgings), non-flared tube fittings, flap fairings. Additionally, high-strength bolts were traditionally made of high-strength alloy steel and protected with cadmium plating. However, in new designs, these components are now manufactured using 0Cr12Mn5Ni4Mo3Al (69111) stainless steel.
