Turning is the most cost-effective method for machining external cylindrical surfaces. However, in terms of economic precision, it is generally suitable for rough and semi-precision machining of external cylindrical surfaces. Grinding is the main precision machining method for external cylindrical surfaces, especially suitable for precision machining of various high-hardness and quenched parts. Finishing methods such as rolling, polishing, and honing, known as super-precision machining, are applied after precision machining. They are suitable for parts with high requirements for accuracy and surface quality.
Since different machining methods have varying levels of achievable economic machining precision, surface roughness, productivity, and production costs, it is necessary to select the appropriate machining method based on specific circumstances in order to produce qualified parts that meet the requirements of the part drawing.
