1. Steel knobs are more robust than iron. Those with a black-oxide finish have mild rust resistance.
Stainless steel knobs have excellent corrosion resistance, making them the best choice for harsh environments. They also have good chemical resistance.
2. Aluminum knobs have mild corrosion resistance, are lightweight, and are non-magnetic.
3. Brass knobs have good corrosion resistance and are non-magnetic.
4. Plastic knobs are a lightweight alternative to metal. They resist oil, grease, and solvents. Nylon has good wear resistance. Phenolic has good scratch resistance. Polypropylene has good impact resistance.
