Steel alloy 1018 is a general-purpose alloy, ideal for parts that require forming and surface hardening. While not as machinable, it is a good choice for parts that require very strong welds and a lower strength than high-carbon alloys. 1018 is available case-hardened only.1018 has a machining cost factor of 2.4 when compared to steel 12L14.
