The surface treatment option for fasteners is chrome plating. Chrome plating refers to the process of depositing a layer of chromium as a coating onto other metals.

1. Chromium is a bluish-silver metal that readily passivates in the air, forming an extremely thin oxide layer on the surface, which exhibits the properties of a noble metal. The hardness of chrome plating is high and can vary within a wide range of 400 to 1200 HV, depending on the composition of the plating solution and process conditions.

2. Chrome plating has good heat resistance. When heated below 500°C, its luster and hardness remain relatively unchanged. Above 500°C, oxidation and discoloration begin, and hardness starts to decrease above 700°C.

3. The friction coefficient of chrome plating is low, especially the coefficient of dry friction, which is the lowest among all metals. Therefore, chrome plating exhibits excellent wear resistance.

4. Chrome plating has good chemical stability. It does not react with alkalis, sulfides, nitric acid, and most organic acids. However, it can be dissolved in hydrochloric acid (such as hydrochloric acid) and hot sulfuric acid.

In the visible light range, chromium has a reflectivity of about 65%, which falls between silver (88%) and nickel (55%). Additionally, chromium does not tarnish, allowing it to maintain its reflectivity for a long time, making it superior to silver and nickel in terms of longevity of reflectivity when used.
