Carbon Steel Screw Heat Treatment Knowledge: The heat treatment process for screws, specifically known as quenching and carburizing heat treatment, is commonly referred to as screw hardening. It is a surface processing technique for screws. Heat treatment is usually performed when the strength of the screw is insufficient, to improve the strength grade of the screw.
Different grades of carbon steel materials produce screws with different strengths. Let's take a look at the strength grades that can be achieved through heat treatment for different grades of carbon steel materials.
1.10B21 Carbon Steel Grade: Screws made from 10B21 material can achieve a strength grade of 8.8 or above after hardening treatment. Chromium hardness (HRC) can be detected, which refers to the hardness measurement of the surface and core of carbon steel screws.
2. CM435 Carbon Steel: Screws made from CM435 material can achieve strength grades of 10.9 and 12.9 after hardening treatment. Surface hardness and core hardness (HRC) can also be measured.
3. 45K Carbon Steel: 45K carbon steel material belongs to quenched and tempered steel, which means the 45K wire has undergone quenching and high-temperature tempering treatment. This improves the steel's plasticity, toughness, and strength, effectively preventing deformation during later heat treatment of the screws. The production of 45K carbon steel screws involves preheating during production, adding an intermediate production process, and allowing them to reach a strength grade of 8.8 after production.
In addition to the above-mentioned carbon steel materials that often require hardening treatment, stainless steel 410, 430, and alloy aluminum in the 7 series can also undergo hardening treatment.
