Anodic oxide films not only have good mechanical properties and high corrosion resistance but also have strong adsorption properties and can be treated with various coloring methods to obtain an attractive decorative appearance. In addition to improving the corrosion resistance and hardness of aluminum and its alloys, the anodic oxide film can also be used as a good functional material, and research and application in this area have been quite effective. The anodic oxidation process of aluminum alloys has been used for many years.

Aluminum alloy hard anodizing
1. Hard anodized aluminum alloy hard anodized film has the following characteristics compared with ordinary oxide film: thicker oxide film (generally not less than 25um thick), higher hardness (more than 350HV), better wear resistance, lower void ratio, higher breakdown voltage resistance, while the surface flatness may seem a little worse.
2. Hard anodizing process characteristics Hard anodizing is not fundamentally different from ordinary oxidation in terms of principle, equipment, process, and testing. Hard anodizing manages to reduce the solubility of the oxide film and is mainly characterized by.
a. Low temperature of the bath (about 20 degrees for normal, less than 5 degrees for hard), which generally results in a high hardness of the oxide film. b. Low concentration of the bath (20% for normal sulfuric acid, less than 15% for hard), which is less soluble in the film.
c. Organic acids are added to the bath, such as oxalic acid or tartaric acid in sulfuric acid
d. High applied voltage and current (ordinary current 1.5A/dm2, voltage below 18V, hard current 2~5A/dm2, voltage above 25V. The highest can up to 100V)
e. The applied voltage should be used to gradually increase the voltage. Because of its high voltage and high current, the processing time is long and therefore the energy consumption is large. At the same time, hard oxidation often uses pulse power or special waveform power.
