Product Specification

Solid rivets have a rod and a semi-circular head that can be deformed by impact with a hammer or riveting tool. Rivet compression tools can also deform rivets, but because of the size of the tool, they are generally used on rivets close to the edge of the workpiece. Two people are required to work on a rivet, one to hit the bar and the other to hold the rivet head on the other side, but the rivet compression tool does not require two people to work on the rivet and is the most effective way to install rivets. Solid rivets are generally used in applications that emphasize reliability and safety, such as structural parts of aircraft. Aircraft housings today require hundreds of thousands of rivets. These rivets may be semi-round head or 100° countersunk head rivets. Aircraft rivets are typically made of aluminum (2017, 2024, 2117, 7050, 5056, 55000, V-65), titanium or nickel alloys. Some aluminum alloys are too hard and need to be annealed before machining. Steel rivets are commonly used in stationary or slow-moving structures such as bridges, cranes, or building structures. Riveted components require access to both the front and the back of the component, usually with electric, pneumatic, or hydraulically driven tools, or manually with a hammer. If only one side is accessible, the rivet will be fixed with a blind rivet instead.
